The hangeroc is likely an evolution of the peplos like dresses worn by the Germans up until the 8th century AD. It was worn with shield brooches. The shield brooch primarily served to close the hangeroc but was also used to attach other jewelry and important everyday items. Between the two brooches, metal chains or strings with beads were often worn. It
